Saw this as I was crossing the William Powell bridge. Stopped in time to get a few images. The plane is based at the marina on the western end of Virginia Key, immediately adjacent to the end of the bridge. You can get an interesting view of the plane taking off or landing if you happen to be on the bridge at the time.
The Calle Ocho Street Carnival is a big annual festival in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. The city blocks off a long section of SW 8th Street (“Calle Ocho”) and tens of thousands of people show up to enjoy the food, music and party atmosphere. It is a diverse and mellow crowd and a cornucopia for people-watching and photography.

Cypress forest. The water’s reddish tint comes from tannins that are produced naturally by decaying vegetation.
Looking west from the observation tower. Everglades National Park.
In the pine glades at Long Pine Key, Everglades National Park.
At Arches National Park, Utah. Sunset on the desert floor.
At sunrise, reflecting the first warm glow of the day.
This is one of a series of “borrow pits” that were used as sources of fill for building the main road through Everglades National Park. Pine Glades Lake is another borrow pit. Once incidental, they are now among the park’s prized attractions with their wildlife and sunset views.
My two best dragonfly pics of 2013. This one is from closer, the other one has (to my taste) better color. Both were hand-held exposures made while chasing dragonflies from stalk to stalk on different windy days. It takes a lot of clicks to get one good image.
